Building Churches Together
An Invitation to Study and Reflection
Sister Lorraine Royer, ICM
This engaging and appealing book compares Building Church Together to a large wagon wheel with its wide rim, strong spokes and big hub.
At the very core of the hub – its innermost center- is the Lord Jesus the source of all life, energy and movement. From the Lord Jesus issues the mission to evangelize. Evangelization begets Church. Evangelization consists in the building up of Church. Building Church is centrifugal, that is, it proceeds from the centre and directed outwards, in the direction of the world. We are the “Church in the Modern World”.
Like the spokes of the wagon wheel, the mission to evangelize radiates and spreads out through a rich variety of ministries that are interconnected; variety of ministries but unity of mission. When we view ministry from that perspective, from the centre, were in touch with its rich variety all at once. Connected to the centre the ministries receive from it their energy, strength and movement. Like the wagon wheel, Building Church Together calls us to focus our attention on the centre; on the Lord Jesus and from him the mission to evangelize.
